Quite often I get PMs asking for help, telling me the SSL on the Adium website has expired, or just asking me if the software is dead. (I don't think it's completely dead, but it is very inactive for long periods of time) It looks like the best place to redirect people would be the r/privacy subreddit. I hate using web based Google chat but we use Google chat for internal organization messages. I was very happy using Messages with a Jabber account - it worked perfectly. After I upgraded to Mojave I was bamboozled why I couldn't get my Jabber contacts to show until I realized Jabber was completely removed. No more Accounts under Messages > Preferences. Wish I thought of checking earlier - I might not have upgraded. Anyways anyone else in this situation I've switched to Adium I just like them better because they’re more built-in to the computer and are running in the background so you can quickly get back to your conversation instead of having to re-open your whole browser and going to the website. The Signal desktop app is, to be honest, poor. Doesn’t fit the design language of MacOS and has a few foibles. Is it possible from a technical perspective to create an Adium plugin for Signal that would let users use Signal with Adium? Please advise. I am going through a nasty divorce and I need to look through several months of iMessages. Scrolling through the thread on my MacBook Pro is very combersome. Monal seems to have connection problems, and Adium looks like a time machine into the 90's and crashes too frequently. I've tried Web-based clients, but my users complain about the lack of chat history, and the need to keep the browser open. Web searches lead me to Facebook IM clients, IRC clients, abandonware, etc. Any suggestions? XMPP was the best cross-platform solution out there, until With the large amount of communication tools all having some level of integration while others are proprietary, it is becoming a challenge to keep up. I am thinking IM (Hangouts, Skype, Skype for Business, Facebook although I don't use it), IRC the legacy - yes still using it, Slack, Mastodon, Discord and newers. Years ago I owned a mac pro and used Adium. Since then I've migrated to windows and now run win 8 and I find myself looking for a replacement for Adium. I don't chat as much as I used to, so I really only need a client that can handle IRC, Skype chat (though if it could handle voice that would be stellar), and (possibly) steam. The big thing is, I would also like it to actually look good and have some decent plugins. I've tried Pidgen, which the people over at Adium suggest, but it is, unfortuna. 13" Retina Macbook Pro with 2.9 Ghz i7 and 512 GB flash storage. I recently switched to osx (work computer) and I'm really trying to give it a go (installed amethyst, re-did a lot of keybinding, hate that you the the fn key cannot be used in custom keybindings.) I used pidgin and otr and they recommend adium for osx but I see there haven't been any commits in a while and it's still two versions behind for the library. So I'm wondering if it would be worth it going throught the hassle of compiling pidgin and it's dependencies for osx. Or is there an alternativ.
